ADRIATIC IONIAN INITIATIVE

Adriatic - Ionian Initiative is based on the metaphor between the macro regions that touch the shores of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. First of all, it is a metaphor for the unity of the two seas, and secondly the metaphor of unity in diversity.

This unity is indicated by the importance of the sea in the historical heritage of ancient Greek and Roman cultures. Differences can be found in each of the tourist regions, and presented through a unique, natural environment, local traditions and the wealth of national cuisines.

Brand Adrion/Adriatic - Ionian Initiative strongly expresses the desire for communion of foreign commerce chambers of the Adriatic and Ionian region. Foreign Chambers of Commerce are located in all the countries that are in contact with the aforementioned two seas: Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, Greece and Slovenia. Initiative was formed in order:

  • To provide assistance to private tour operators in order to grow stronger and to provide more help from the institutions during presentation of new destinations
  • To provide help to less developed tourist areas through connections with the powerful and well developed tourist regions that have strong tourism tradition
  • To give tourists an immediate identification with the services and products from selected region

Together with the travel agency "Mistral" from Split (Croatia), travel agency "Respect" was co-founder of Adriatic - Ionian Initiative pool (created in 2008) with headquarters in Ancona. That same year the Chamber of Commerce in Split signed an agreement on the membership and adopted the statute and program goals of the organization.
